Step 1

Connect and power on your stand

  1. Slide the port cover off of the POS terminal on the cashier side.

  2. Feed the DC port of the power cable through the openings on the bottom of the stand.

  3. Plug the cable into the far right matching port.

  4. Reinstall the port cover.

  5. Plug the other end of the power brick into a 120v outlet.

Step 2

Connect stand to the internet

Note: It is crucial to connect your device to the internet so that it can pull in any required updates before advancing with device setup. Updates may take up to 15-30 minutes depending on network speeds.

Wi-fi setup (recommended)
  1. During initial power on you will be prompted to select a Wireless Network to connect to. If the prompt disappears, the device will need to be power cycled for it to appear again.

  2. Select the desired wireless network.

  3. Input the password for the network.

Ethernet setup

  1. Route the network cable through the access port located on the bottom of the unit closest to the cashier.

  2. Plug the cable into the ethernet port.

Step 3

Connect the Heartland Reader

  1. On the POS terminal, remove the port cover on the cashier facing side.

  1. Feed the cable for the Hartland Reader through the slot in the bottom of the stand and plug it into an open USB port.

  1. Reinstall the port cover.

Step 4

Connect the receipt printer

  1. Plug the printer power cable into the wall outlet.

  2. Connect the USB-B cable into the back of the printer.

  3. On the POS stand, remove the port cover on the cashier facing side.

  4. Run the cable through the cord port on the bottom of the POS stand.

  5. Plug the USB-A cable into one of the available ports in the POS stand.

  6. Reinstall the bottom plate of the printer. (Take care to align the tabs and ensure the plate is facing the right direction.)

Connect the cash drawer

  1. Unbox the cash drawer.

  2. Plug the end of the cable labeled Cash Drawer into the cash drawer.

  3. Plug the other end, labeled Printer, into the receipt printer.

Connect the scanner

  1. Remove the port cover on the cashier facing side of the POS terminal.

  2. Route the scanner cable through one of the openings on the bottom of the POS.

  3. Plug the scanner cable into one of the POS USB ports and the base of the scanner.

  4. Reinstall the port cover on the cashier side of the POS terminal.

  1. Scan this code and wait for the following process to complete before going to the next step:

    • The scanner will chirp twice
    • The green light on the top of the scanner will blink
    • Then the scanner will chirp again

Prepare the kitchen printer

  1. Unpack the ribbon cassette and turn the knob in the direction shown to take up any slack.

  2. Open the ribbon cassette cover of the printer using the tabs on each side of the cover.

  3. Insert the new ribbon cassette as shown in the diagram under the cover and push the ribbon cassette down until it clicks.

  4. Close the ribbon cassette cover of the printer.

  1. Plug the power cable from the printer into the wall outlet.

  2. Open the top of the printer by sliding the lever toward the back of the printer.

  3. Place the roll of paper in the back of the device as shown in the diagram and pull enough paper out to feed to the top.

  4. Close the printer lid.

  5. Turn the printer on using the power switch on the left side.

    Note: A 10 ft ethernet cable has been provided with this printer, but a longer cable may be required.

Step 5

Run first

Note: Before utilizing the Heartland Restaurant application two utilities must be run.

  1. Press the home button on the bottom of the screen to exit the POS application and return to the desktop.

  2. Click the elo icon to run the MB5500 FW application to update the firmware on the payment device.

  3. The application will run automatically and close once it is finished.

  4. Next, click the Android icon to run the Enable MultiClient Input application.

  5. The application will run and restart the device when completed.

  6. When the unit reboots, it will start the Heartland Restaurant application automatically.

Step 6

Change display DPI

Note: Before utilizing the Heartland Restaurant application, the display DPI must be changed.

  1. Press the Android home button on the bottom of the screen to exit the POS application and return to the desktop.

  2. Click the Settings Gear icon, select Display setting, expand Advanced Settings, select Screen Density and change the density setting to 160MDPI.

  3. The application will confirm that the setting change should apply. Select Reboot Now.

  4. When the unit reboots, it will start the Heartland Restaurant application automatically.

Step 7

Sign into Heartland Restaurant Point of Sale

Note: You will not be able to sign into the point of sale until you have created Staff users during the Guided Setup process. Check your inbox for the Account Activation email to initiate the Guided Setup process.

Once connected to a network and fully updated, the device will reboot and open to the Heartland Restaurant application.

  1. Enter your Device Login Code from the Admin Portal.

  2. When prompted, select to use the device as Point of Sale.

Tip: If you haven’t set up login credentials, locate your Account Activation email from Heartland to get started.

Step 8

Create your printers

  1. In the Main Menu of the Admin Portal, click Location Setup, then click Printers.

  2. In the Printers screen, click the +New button to add a Printer.

  3. In the Name box, type a descriptive name for the device (ex: Coffee Bar printer).

  4. In the IP Address box, type the IP address of the printer. Note: Kitchen Printers should be marked as Shared.

  5. Select the Printer Brand.

  6. Select the Printer Series.

  7. Click the Save icon to save the record.

  8. Click the Upload icon to publish changes.

  9. Click Yes at the prompt.

Step 9

Assign your printers

  1. In the POS, tap the menu icon in the top right.

  2. Tap the Manager option.

  3. Tap Printers.

  4. Tap Use next to a pre-existing Printer Template OR tap New Template to create a new template to use.

  5. If creating a New Template:

    1. Tap Send Test to ensure the printer is properly routed to POS

    2. Tap Enable next to all printers that need enabled

    3. Tap Save

  6. Tap Use next to the appropriate Printer Template.

  7. Select the appropriate Default Register Printer.

Step 10

Assign your payment device

  1. In the POS, tap the menu icon on the top right.

  2. Tap the Manager option.

  3. Tap Payment Terminals.

  4. Select the appropriate Payment Terminal.
